Languages
Navaid supports multiple interface and advisor languages. The choice is personal: it changes your own interface and the language requested from AI conversations, not the language chosen by colleagues.
Supported choices
| Selector label | Stored locale |
|---|---|
| English (UK) | en-GB |
| English (US) | en-US |
| Français | fr-FR |
| Suomi | fi-FI |
| Cymraeg | cy-GB |
| Polski | pl-PL |
| Eesti | et-EE |
UK English is the canonical English content. US English is derived with US spelling.
Where to change language
When multilingual support is available:
- use the compact selector near the bottom of the authenticated sidebar; or
- open Settings → Profile → Language.
Some public, marketing, authentication, and consent screens also expose a selector.
What changes
Changing language updates:
- interface labels and guidance;
- the browser document language for accessibility;
- the stored preference for authenticated use; and
- the language directive used by supported text and voice AI services.
The visual change happens immediately. Saving the authenticated profile preference is best-effort; a temporary save failure does not undo the local browser change.
How Navaid chooses an initial language
The application considers:
- a supported language in the page query string;
- the saved browser preference;
- the browser language; and
- the page's HTML language.
Unsupported languages fall back to UK English. A previous authenticated preference is also stored on the profile for later sessions.
Feature flag
For ordinary authenticated users, the selector is controlled by the Multilingual UI feature flag. It is hidden while that flag is off or still loading.
System Admins can see it regardless so they can verify translations. Some public marketing use can expose language choice independently.
Hiding the selector does not erase an already stored locale.
Advisor and voice behaviour
The selected language informs:
- readiness chat;
- Aida;
- relevant summary generation;
- live voice language configuration; and
- supported guided-tour narration.
AI can still use untranslated business names, quoted evidence, or technical terms. Ask it to correct language if it drifts.
The guided tour currently has dedicated narration for a subset of supported languages and falls back to English where a narration pack is unavailable.
Existing content is not translated retroactively
Changing language does not rewrite:
- earlier session messages;
- company documents;
- previously generated summaries;
- task titles already stored;
- feedback already submitted; or
- free-text company facts.
Only the interface around that content changes.
Translation fallback
If a particular label has no translation, Navaid falls back to UK English rather than leaving the screen unusable. Report repeated or misleading fallback through Feedback.
Troubleshooting
The selector is missing
Ask a System Admin to verify Multilingual UI. If you are on a public page, not every surface exposes the same control.
The interface reverted after refresh
Allow local storage for the site and confirm the authenticated profile remains available. Select the language again in Settings.
The advisor answers in the wrong language
State your preference in the conversation, then confirm Settings shows the intended language. Previously stored conversation text can influence terminology but should not override the current directive.
A colleague sees a different language
That is expected. Preferences are per user/browser.
